Doxazosin is a drug medicine acting as adrenergic blockers of class alpha- 1. It treats patient with high blood pressure and BHP which is enlargement of prostate gland but it's none cancerous. Doxazosin stops norepinephrine, the one that releases the nerves from receptors of alpha-1 smooth muscle surrounds the prostate and bladder and the blood vessels. It prevents the effect of norepinephrine, it relaxes the smooth muscles that cause to dilate and reduce blood pressure. Relaxation of that smooth muscle also improves the urine flow and lessens the pain as well as the uneasiness typical experience of a person with BHP.


Doxazosin meslate tablet contains doxazosin in 1mg with white color, 2mg in yellow, 4 mg in orange and 8 mg in green. Other inactive ingredients for all these tablets are lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, and sodiumlauryl sulfate and magnesium stearate. Tablet containing 2 mg has FD & C yellow 6 and D&C yellow 10, tablet 4 mg contains FD & C yellow 6 and tablet with 8 mg has D & C yellow 10 and FD and C blue.


This medicine is very effective in control of high blood pressure and treatment of BHP or benign hyperplasia prostatic.

Dosage and administration

This medicine has a recommended dosage of 1mg to 16mg every day and BHP patient for 1mg to 8 mg every day.


Patients with allergies and sensitive reactions to doxazosin, or any of its inert ingredients or to quinazolines, must never use this drug medicine.

Important Precautions

It is highly important to consult a doctor before taking this medicine. A patient must tell if she has some allergies on such medicine or to any other allergies as well as to some of its inactive ingredients. Patient must inform their health care providers if they have the history of liver disease, prostate cancer, heart disease which may include angina, heart attack and congestive heart failure in last six months prior to the intake of this drug. User of this medicine must avoid driving or engage in any alert activity because this drug can cause drowsiness or dizziness. Also, patient must limit the intake of alcohol. In initial take of this drug, the patient must avoid situations which lead to injury or faintness. Elderly has greater risk on low blood pressure and dizziness when using this medicine. Pregnant women who plan to take this drug should consult their doctors before using it. Those mothers who want to breast feed their babies while using this drug must consult the health experts before breast-feeding.

Side effects

Users of this drug medicine must know and observe the side effects of this drug. Among the common side effects are fatigue, uneasy breathing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, low blood pressure, edema, and dizziness. Doxazosin is significantly reducing the blood pressure on the initial intake causing a patient to feel dizzy and faint. Other patients may feel a prolonged pain during penile erection and reduce in white blood cells are also the ill effects of this drug medicine. It causes IFIS or intraoperative floppy iris syndrome when a person has a cataract operation so patient must tell their doctor that they take this medicine.


Store the medicine in a place with storage temperature of 25C or 77F, and excursions allowed to 15C to 30C or 59F to 86F.
