Clindamycin topical is used for the treatment of bacterial infections and the symptoms it can cause.

How it Works

Clindamycin is known as an antibiotic, clindamycin stops bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of essential proteins in bacterial cells which are required by the bacteria to carry out its vital functions. Thus clindamycin helps to treat the bacterial infections and its symptoms.

Introduction

Clindamycin phosphate gel 1% is a topical antibiotic which is used in the treatment of acne vulgaris, a common form of acne that is non-inflammatory but with mild lesions. This gel kills the bacteria which forms acne and prevents further development of acne. The drug belongs to the antibiotic group called Lincosamide, and it can be used for different types of acne issues.

Use

This medication is used to decrease acne lesions on the skin without much side effects. Clindamycin phosphate gel is an antibiotic which controls the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the protein synthesis that is essential for the survival of bacteria. It helps kill the bacteria which promotes acne formation. It is for external use only.

Dosage and administration

It is recommended to use the gel twice a day or as prescribed by the doctor. Clean the affected area and pat dry. Take a small quantity of the gel and apply it on the affected area with your finger tip. You can also use a medical pad or swab to apply the gel on the infected area. Take sufficient quantities of the gel so that it covers the affected area completely.

Usually, it takes 2 to 6 weeks for acne to subside and almost 12 weeks for any noticeable skin improvement. Do not stop using the gel once you see visible effects on the skin without consulting a doctor. Wash your hands properly after use. In case you miss to apply a scheduled application of the gel, then it is better to skip the missed application and just continue with the regular routine. Consult the doctor for proper application frequency.

  • This medication may be absorbed into the blood stream which may result in intestinal issues such as diarrhoea, stomach cramps, etc. Consult your doctor and stop using the gel immediately if you experience any discomfort while using the gel.
