Cozaar belongs to the drug category called angiotension II receptor antagonist. It lowers the blood pressure by keeping the blood vessel narrow, thus, helps in improving blood flow. The generic name for Cozaar is losartan potassium. This medication is manufactured by FDC, RPG Life Sciences, CADILA, Micro Carsyon, and Ranbaxy. Other popular trade names are Covance, Repace, and Cosart.
The main ingredient of this drug is LOSARTAN POTASSIUM. This component is a non peptide molecule. It is off white to white in color. It has a molecular weight of 461.01. The medication is both water soluble and alcohol soluble, however, it is slightly soluble in most organic solvent. This drug can be purchase both online and local drug stores. Inactive components comprising the drug are lactose hydrous, titanium dioxide, starch, magnesium stearate, and microcrystalline cellulose.

Dosage and administration

The Cozaar therapy is contraindicated to patient who has hypersensitivity reaction to any of the component of losartan. This drug is also contraindicated to pregnant woman as there were reports that usage of thus drug during pregnancy may lead to fetal defect or worst fetal death. Breastfeeding mothers are also discourage to use this drug as it is reported that component of this medication is secreted in the breast milk.
