This is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor drug. The generic name of this drug is lisinopril. Other famous trade names are Cipril and Listril. The drug is manufactured by ASTRAZENRCA, Carsyon, MHRA UK. The medication is a long-acting ACE. It has been used worldwide for the treatment of hypertension and heart related diseases or condition. Lisinopril is the lysine derivative of enalapril. It is also a teratogenic agent. When we say teratogen, meaning it can cause harmful effect does causing birth defects to children.
LISINOPRIL plays the main action for the therapeutic effect of Zestril (lisinopril). Each tablet of lisinopril contains 5.45 mg lisinopril dehydrate. Zestril comes in strengths from 2.5 mg to 40 mg in a form of tablet. It comprises of inactive ingredients like mannitol, magnesium esterate, calcium phosphate, starch, and red and yellow ferric oxide.
Lisinopril is used for adjunct therapy for various disease conditions such as heart failure, renal complication as a result of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and other disease health condition involving the heart. For treating hypertension, this drug can be use coupled with other hypertensive drugs to achieve its synergistic effect. This is also best used for heart failure especially in the case when the patient is not adequately responding to digitalis and diuretics. Dosage and administration
For the patient suffering from hypertension but it not on any diuretic treatment a dosage of 10 mg to be given once a day is recommended. It is also important to monitor blood pressure as dosage adjustment greatly depends on the response of the blood pressure to the initial dose of therapy. If ever hypertension does not respond well to this treatment alone, then it can be use synergistically with diuretics. This medication is taken orally with full or empty stomach. Zestril is discouraged to use if the patient has hypersensitivity reaction to any component of lisinopril. Severe side effects of this drug that prompted medical attention are formation of itchy rash, dyspnea or difficulty of breathing, dysphagia or difficulty swallowing, chest pain, facial swelling, chest tightness, nausea and vomiting, jaundice of the skin and eyes, grogginess, lightheadedness, hematuria characterized by dark colored urine, and irregular beating of the heart.
Keep the medicine in a cool and dry place preferably 15 degree Celsius to 30 degree Celsius. Keep the product away from heat and moisture. Discard properly once expiry date reached.
